I’m Alex Bushnell, a qualified garden designer and a professional gardener with nearly 10 years’ experience. I am based in and around the Oxfordshire area. I have a keen eye for detail and a passion for the natural world which developed from a young age and has continued to flourish through my adult life.

I have had an interest in gardening for as long as I can remember and have fond memories of being in the garden with my mum as a child. I grew up on a working farm and became familiar with agricultural practices from a young age.

I started my career as an artist and graduated from the Arts University Bournemouth with a degree in illustration; during these years studying I developed a deep interest in botany and a keen eye for detail, colour and composition. It had become very apparent to me in my final year of study that I wanted to pursue a career in horticulture, while using my drawing skills professionally which led me to begin exploring the idea of becoming a garden designer.

To pursue becoming a garden designer, I felt the need to further my understanding of gardening practices, so began and completed a RHS level 2 course. While completing this, I was also working for an award-winning garden design and maintenance company in Oxford, maintaining gardens, assisting with soft landscaping and planting up designs by the in-house designer.

I then went on to complete a Garden design course and a further extended course at Waterperry Gardens in Oxford with an award-winning designer. During this time, I continued setting up my own business and subcontracting for an eco-gardening company in and around the Cotswolds.

I have since worked part time for an award-winning garden designer in Oxford, in which I drew up and helped design planting plans for many different styles of gardens. I continue to work with local landscaping companies to design plans for their clients to suit their various requirements. As a small business owner, I am working on growing my business every year, while developing my knowledge and understanding through small courses and self-teaching. I strive to provide bespoke hand drawn designs and planting plans locally around Oxfordshire and remotely throughout the UK.
